Carl Kuhnke was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Walkerton Clean Water Centre effective September 2017. Reporting to the Board of Directors, Carl leads the operation of, and strategic planning for, the Centre.
Prior to joining the Centre, he was the Managing Director at the Province of Saskatchewan’s Centre of Excellence for Transportation & Infrastructure (SCETI), the Executive Director of ITS Canada in Toronto, Chief Operating Officer of the Science Council of BC, and served 20 years as a Senior Canadian Technology Diplomat in Asia, the USA and Europe. During Carl’s tenure in the Canadian Embassy in Tokyo, he successfully negotiated and managed the $100 million Canada-Japan Bilateral Agreement on Science and Technology and worked with Japanese universities, corporations and government agencies to examine long term social and economic impacts of global water supply challenges. He has sat on the board of Milton Hydro Inc., the Victoria International Airport, BC Biotech, Tech BC and the Vancouver Enterprise Forum.
Carl has his Bachelor of Science (Environmental Science and Biotechnology) and Master of Business Administration from the University of Alberta. Carl speaks English, French, German and Japanese.
