Natural Organic Matter in Drinking Water: Characteristics, Challenges and Control – CEU: 0.7

Course Overview

This advanced course will discuss different types of organic compounds, their significance in water treatment and effective methods for removing or minimizing their concentrations.

Participants will be provided with hands-on practices in measuring ultraviolet (UV) absorbance for natural organic matter (NOM) monitoring and identifying the relationship between UV absorbance and dissolved organic carbon.

Through case studies, participants will learn about different applications of appropriate treatment, with an emphasis on the relationship between NOM and disinfection by-product formation.

Target Audience

This course will be of interest to experienced drinking water operators, postsecondary students and engineers who want to learn more theoretical and in-depth information about natural organic matter.
