Course Overview
Participants will walk step-by-step through the logistics of responding to emergency watermain breaks as directed in the updated Watermain Disinfection Procedure.
Instruction will focus on the processes to effectively control and manage watermain breaks from first response to excavations to repair.
Topics of discussion will include the importance of safety and watermain break categorization during emergency response, obtaining locates, and ensuring proper site setup.
Excavation and repair will be covered in detail – safety considerations, choice of equipment, procedural requirements and potential hazards. Finally, site restoration following the repair will round out the day.
Target Audience
This course will be of interest to new and experienced drinking water distribution operations staff and private contractors who repair watermains for municipal and private distribution systems.
