Disinfection: Sodium Hypochlorite a New Course for Drinking Water Professionals

WCWC is pleased to announce the launch of a new course, Disinfection: Sodium Hypochlorite.

Disinfection: Sodium Hypochlorite will introduce basic concepts related to chlorine disinfection, with a focus on sodium hypochlorite. The course will cover chlorine properties, its application and how sodium hypochlorite is added to the treatment process. Participants will examine breakpoint chlorination, discuss factors influencing contact time and dechlorination. Hazards associated with the use of sodium hypochlorite and safety precautions and equipment will be discussed. Participants will also demonstrate the application of chemical dosing pumps through hands-on activities. Successful participants will receive 0.7 Continuing Education Units upon completion of the course.

This new course is based on the existing WCWC course, Disinfection: Chlorine, but does not include content specific to chlorine gas. Disinfection: Sodium Hypochlorite will be most beneficial to drinking water treatment operators who are new to the industry.

Disinfection: Sodium Hypochlorite will be delivered for the first time to participants from the North Shore Tribal Council on November 2 and 3, 2022.
