For the first time, the Walkerton Clean Water Centre has developed an e-learning version of the course to make training more affordable, flexible and accessible across Ontario.

The Walkerton Clean Water Centre (WCWC) is pleased to announce that, for the first time, Mandatory Certificate Renewal Course (2024–2026) is available in an e-learning format, which will allow water system operators to learn at their own pace in any location that is convenient to them.

Mandatory Certificate Renewal Course (2024–2026) is the current version of the mandatory course that must be completed every three years by drinking water system operators holding Class I through IV, Water Quality Analyst or Limited System licences. This course may also be of interest to supervisors, managers, regulatory personnel and consulting engineers.

The material for this course has been designed using the steps of the multibarrier approach. Participants will learn the important role operators have in source water protection, the risks to source water, and emerging issues challenging the quality of raw water sources in Ontario. Effective treatment practices will be reviewed along with the minimum requirements outlined in the regulation for filtration and disinfection parameters.

Participants will also review requirements for maintaining primary and secondary disinfection, best practices for mitigating lead and corrosion in the distribution system, best practices for meeting continuous monitoring and sampling requirements, regulatory requirements for recordkeeping, legal and ethical duties of operators, documentation to support compliance, and what to expect during an inspection. Successful participants will receive 0.7 Continuing Education Units.

The new course joins WCWC’s growing catalogue of self-directed, e-learning courses designed to improve the affordability, flexibility and accessibility of training for water system operators.

Mandatory Certificate Renewal Course (2024–2026) is also available through correspondence, live virtual delivery, in-class, and at your location upon request. For more information, or to register, please visit wcwc.ca/registration or contact us at 866-515-0550 or training@wcwc.ca.
