Course Overview
This course will introduce participants to the roles and responsibilities for providing drinking water to First Nations (FN) communities, and review the current state of Drinking Water Advisories (DWAs) in Canada.
The course will also cover the various types of DWAs and the steps taken to implement, communicate and lift a DWA.
Through a variety of case studies, participants will be provided with examples of DWAs and their outcomes. The materials will also provide attendees with best practices for source water protection, communication, documentation and management of DWAs.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Recognize the roles and responsibilities for drinking water in First Nations communities
- Identify categories of drinking water advisories and their purpose
- Discuss the process of issuing and resolving drinking water advisories
- Describe best practices for preventing, issuing and resolving drinking water advisories
Target Audience
This course will be of particular interest to operators, supervisors and managers of First Nations drinking water systems, as well as other stakeholders in providing drinking water to First Nations communities.
