Groundwater and Well Basics – CEU: 0.7

Course Overview

This introductory course will provide participants with a basic understanding of how geology relates to aquifer formation as well as groundwater chemistry. Participants will receive an explanation of the fundamentals of groundwater, as well as key definitions and terms. Instruction will focus on applicable regulations, well types, location, disinfection and performance. Threats to groundwater and wellhead protection will also be discussed.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the impact of geology and glacial formation on groundwater.
  • Identify types of aquifers and wells.
  • Illustrate a basic understanding of relevant well regulations and groundwater chemistry.
  • Identify the principles of source protection for wells.

Target Audience

This course has been developed to provide basic knowledge of groundwater and wells to groundwater system owners and operators with limited experience.
