The 2024–25 annual report highlights WCWC’s work to deliver on its vision of clean, safe water for everyone in Ontario

Walkerton, ON — The Walkerton Clean Water Centre (WCWC) is pleased to release its 2024–25 annual report, available online at wcwc.ca/en/about/governance-documents/.

The annual report highlights WCWC’s work during the past year to provide education, training, information and advice to water professionals. WCWC successfully delivered mandatory and specialized training to more than 8,100 participants through classroom, correspondence, e-learning, and live virtual formats to improve the accessibility and affordability of training across Ontario.

WCWC also supported the improvement of drinking water in First Nations communities through the delivery of Entry-Level Course for Drinking Water Operators for First Nations, Managing Drinking Water Systems in First Nations Communities and specialized courses. Based on client feedback, WCWC also launched three new courses to help Indigenous operators improve their skills and knowledge.

The Technology Demonstration Facility continued to serve as a platform for pilot testing as the Centre undertook increasingly complex projects to help clients address system vulnerabilities and contaminants of emerging concern. Two pilot projects were completed to help clients address their site-specific challenges and six more were underway at the end of the fiscal year.  Information and advice were also provided through technical tours, which educated 473 course participants, postsecondary and high school students about the equipment and operational requirements necessary to ensure that drinking water is safe.

CEO Brian Bates is excited for the future at WCWC, “I’m proud of the progress we’ve made to help ensure clean, safe drinking water across Ontario, but our work is not done. WCWC will continue to expand its e-learning options to improve the accessibility and affordability of training for water system operators in small and remote communities. We’ve also made our e-learning courses available outside of Ontario, which will help fuel future growth to fund additional new course offerings.”
